G’day, I’m Makayla!
I grew up between country properties in Mudgee, NSW, where weekends were spent either on the road for sport, or caring for livestock. Thanks to my dad’s work in agriculture, those adventures soon stretched beyond Australia, from crossing the Nullarbor to wandering through the ancient Palace of Knossos in Greece. That’s where my love of travel began.
After a few solo adventures and volunteer projects overseas, I met my English husband. Together we’ve explored the world, from 4WDing through the Sahara Desert and eating our way through Italy to discovering the history of Greece and celebrating Christmas beneath New York’s Rockefeller Center.
When COVID turned our Bondi apartment into our entire world, we packed up our dog and cat and moved to the English countryside, where I experienced life as an expat and spent every opportunity exploring Europe and beyond. Those experiences, along with countless travel lessons and unforgettable memories, inspired me to create Wander Mak.
Eventually, Australia’s sunshine and country lifestyle called us home. Now back in Mudgee, we’ve built our home, welcomed a few rescue animals (who definitely keep life interesting!), and embraced the slower pace of rural living. More recently, I’ve also discovered the wonderful adventure of motherhood.
Wander Mak is where global adventures meet country living. Here you’ll find destination guides, road trips, hidden gems, home inspiration, and stories from both my own backyard and around the world—because I believe the best adventures aren’t measured by distance, but by the memories they create.
