
Labelled as Australia’s most liveable city in Australia and the third in the whole world, there’s a good reason why Melbourne has earned its impressive reputation. Boasting epic art-covered walls, iconic cuisine and stunning beaches, the Victorian capital allows one to indulge in an active yet relaxed lifestyle whilst being inspired by the creative.
It’s hard to know where to start when visiting Melbourne, and unlike its sister city, Sydney, tourist attractions may not be as obvious. But despite this, the city is jam packed full of things to do, queue this blog post. Heres a brief summary of the city to help direct you in the right direction.

When to visit Melbourne
Although there is no bad time to visit Melbourne, The city does have a milder climate compared to other sunny Australian capitals. For this reason I recommend September through til March when the temperature is moderate. Keep in mind that the city is known for inconsistent weather, so consider packing a rain coat and umbrella is advisable regardless of the time of year.


Getting around Melbourne
Walk
Walking through Melbourne is one of the best ways to explore the city. This means to getting around allows you to find hidden gems and iconic alley ways that can be easily missed when on other means of transport.
Public transport
The city circle tram is a free tram for tourists which takes you around the city centre. It will take you around the city and stop at the top sites and places to see, making it an ultra- easy means of getting around the city. You can also purchase a myki card (which works the same way as a ticket) which allows you to use buses, trains and trams.
Uber & taxi
Ubers and taxi’s are accessible within the city of Melbourne. Ubers tend to be more affordable from my experience.


Melbourne suburb breakdown
Melbourne CBD
This area of the city pays homage to the incredible city skyline of towering buildings. Boasting incredible murals and graffiti street art in addition to UNESCO listed architecture.
South bank
Here lies the heart of the city, boasting iconic Melbourne shores, upmarket restaurants and luxurious bars.
Fitzroy
This hipster neighbourhood and home to Brunswick street, here you can find favoured foodie spots, great shopping and a vibrant nightlife.
Brunswick
Located just 10 minutes from the CBD, Brunswick offers a plethora of accomodation to stay in, vintage shops, wine bars and hidden gems.
Hawthorn
Located in the East of Melbourne, here you can find cute boutique shops and charming heritage cottages that have been restored into some of Australia’s most loved homes.
Brighton
A coastal neighbourhood known for its famed for being a great swimming spot and homing the iconic Brighton beach boxes.
St Kilda
Lined with palm trees, art stalls and outdoor activities, this is one of the best beach neighbourhoods Melbourne has on offer.





Where to stay
The best neighbourhoods to stay in include: Fitzroy, South Bank and Brunswick due to being high in safety and within close proximately from the Melbourne CBD. Here are some of my favourite stays;
WRAP on South Bank
The stylish converted warehouse has an onsite pool and gym along with multi bedroom apartments making it a home away from home. With skyline views of the city and located in the gorgeous Southbank neighbourhood, this is a great mid range budget hotel to opt for.
The Ritz- Carlton, Melbourne
Here you celebrate ancient stories and vibrant cultures through stylish and signature experiences at the Ritz- Carlton. From sweeping views of Melbourne city to the famous harbour, this is a one of a kind stay.
QT Melbourne
This luxurious hotel oozes Melbourne vibes. From waking up to the smell of batch- brewed coffee and an edgy essence, you can pull back the curtains and take in that laneway buzz.
Crown Towers
If you’re wanting to treat yourself to a luxe experience like no other, this location is second to none. Located next to the Yarra river, you can indulge in the sophisticated design and iconic city skyline views.

Where to eat and drink
From the coffee culture, to the amazingly cool bars, to the brunch scene – There’s a good reason why Melbourne has earnt a spot on the map for being a foodie paradise. Whilst it is incredible hard to go wrong in Melbourne when dining out, i’ve included some of my favourite places below.
HER Melbourne
This awe-inspiring, pacific house flaunts romanesque window arches and its very own rooftop bar. The heritage listed building ties Melbourne’s art scene and to traditional Australia. From cocktails to French inspired platters, this would have to be a personal favourite for me!
Higher Ground
Located in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, the heritage listed converted power house offers scenic views of the city centre and a mouth watering, evocative, highly curated menu which promises to impress.
Journal Cafe
Nothing captures Melbourne’s robust European heritage quiet like journal. Hidden in one. of the cities most famous laneways, this cafe is one of Melbourne’s best kept secrets. There’s no better way to start your Australian coffee experience than visiting this beautiful venue!
