Brighton Bathing boxes
Dendy street beach plays host to the Brighton beach boxes, one of Australia’s most iconic attractions. Here you can find 82 unique beach box huts, each decorated in individual colours and art, making for a great photo opportunity, especially when viewed together as a collective!
The Beach Boxes are a vestige from Modest Victorian times, being build in 1860 by European settlers during the population boom caused by the Australian Gold rush. The bathing boxes were used by beach goers to change their clothing in privacy; making these beach boxes a heritage protected resource. Although the beach boxes are still used today, locals are to buy an annual licence which comes at a hefty price.
Despite being privately leased, the exterior of the boxes are available to members of the public to photograph and enjoy whilst spending the day in the sun.

Brighton Beach
There are many reasons why Brighton Beach is one of the best beaches in Melbourne, and it’s not just the bathing boxes that make it an icon.
The whole of Brighton beach is 11kms long! Boasting a long stretch of golden sand, gentle waves and clear water, it makes for the perfect place to enjoy outdoor activities and relaxation. It also tends to be one of the more quieter beaches and a great place to avoid the crowds in the summer heat.
If that isn’t good enough, the beach is dog friendly, allowing dog lovers and appreciators alike to enjoy time with their four legged friends.
