How to find the secret sea cliff bridge lookout, North Wollongong

The sea cliff Bridge is one of the most iconic structures in NSW! It’s also the second most photographed (after the Sydney Harbour bridge), and there’s a good reason why!

The 665 metre bridge is located in North Wollongong and was built in 2005 connecting Coalcliff to Clifton. The scenic bridge is characterised and renowned for hugging sheer cliffs whilst over looking the Pacific Ocean, making for a breathtaking view.

Although walking and driving across the bridge is iconic in itself, nothing compares to overlooking the bridge from surrounding cliffs. There is one lookout in particular that offers the best views, however, is not an entirely obvious location. In fact, the lookout was a local secret for some years before gaining traction online. It is also the lookout in which most likely inspired you to think of visiting the Sea Cliff bridge in the first place!

The lookout isn’t sign posted and is certainly not the easiest journey, leaving many tourists disappointed upon their visit. Queue this blog post! Here’s how to find the iconic and secret Sea Cliff bridge lookout!

The sea cliff bridge trail

There are two entrances leading to the sea cliff bridge trail. On this blog post I’ll be advising the easier and quicker of the two.

You can find the entrance of the trail in the car park south of the Sea bridge. The car park resides next to Rube Hargrave park, however it is only small and can often be congested. In the event that you are unable to get a car park, you can find multiple parking spaces along Lawrence Hargrave drive leading south of the bridge toward Scarborough. There is also a train station within walking distance called ‘Coalcliff station’ as an alternate means of travel. Once you have arrived, walk toward the car park.

Once in the car park, head North into the bushes. Although subtle, there is an entrance next to the ‘warning’ sign. Here you can enter the trail and follow the dirt path. There are multiple trees marked with yellow paint to help guide you in the correct direction. The walk in total takes approx 6 minutes to the lookout. Just be aware of exposed wires and tree roots as they can be a tripping hazard.

Once you get to the lookout, you will notice that there are various lookout points in prime position to gaze upon the sea bridge and take some incredible snaps. The view also looks out over the turquoise and tranquil pacific ocean and Royal National park.

The scenic view is incredible any time of the day, however, sunrise is particularly special. At this time of day you can expect to watch the sky turn pink and orange and the cliff faces and sea be sprayed in golden rays – amazing right?
